I normally try to suspend it off the bottom with a float on the leader. I always get tangled in weed and hate pulling in everything but fish.

 

fish with a small float on the leader or just fish under a regular float, I prefer the under the float method, or toss over the weeds to the deeper spots that are weed free, most times you see the weeds and moss only grow out so far, before the water gets to deep to support them, I like to throw over the weeds and then bring it back to just on the outside edge of the weeds, that's where the fish like to hunt, but when reeling in to check bait or reeling in a fish you will still have a bunch of weeds on your line,part of the game to me.
