I have been using rippin lips rods for a couple or so years now and like them very much. Especially for the price and I still think they can't be beat for the price.

I picked up a couple of Denali rods this evening. One a medium and the other a medium heavy. Comparing them to my RL rods they are almost a like in action. Looking at the build quality they seem to be a step up from the RLips rods. Comparing the medium to medium is a huuuge difference as the eyes on the Denali are much beefier than the medium on the RL medium rods.

Are these better? Depends on your taste as these are pricier coming in at 65 per rod. The looks are pretty darn good but I will soon see on what they do on the water. Right now getting my reels spooled up to go try them out. Will let you know in a couple of days how I really feel about them

The Denali Bottom Feeder sounds like a good rod from the specs I looked at on the Denali site. I can order a Rippin Lips Medium Heavy and have it at my front door for $38 plus tax in Indiana so $41. The Denali is already almost 1/3 more starting out, so what is the total cost to have a Denali at your front door?

The only design feature I can see a difference in is the Rippin Lips has a trigger and the Denali doesn't seem to from the pictures I have seen. Things like triggers or handle material are more preference items and do not normally effect a rods ability but with the good quality of many rods in todays market, personnel preference seems to be what make the rod selection.

I also use the Rippin Lips rods and am very satisfied with the action. The largest fish to date is a 42lb blue. If I were to change I think it would be TWC rods for a few dollars more. I opted for the RL because of price and reviews, while not disappointed I have used the TWC rods and think they would be an upgrade.

Oh so the Denali does have a trigger. That is good to me. Some don't like the trigger but I have gotten so used to t the I prefer one. I was surprised after looking at every picture I could find and reading the company rundown I did not know it had a trigger.

Ok, summer can be a busy time so when you get a chance, tell me your thoughts about it. And if you don't mind, the cost as compared to the $38 plus tax in Indiana for the Rippin Lips.

I didn't get the rods as a upgrade to my Rippinlips rods. I just happen to see these as a local shop and so I bought them.

The Denali medium is what the medium RL rod should have been. There is a big difference between the RL medium and medium heavy. I never had a problem with the eyes on the RL medium but they are thin. The Denali medium have beefed up eye's. The actions are nearly the same and that is a good thing as I love rhe acrion on both rods. I like the foregrip of the Denali. Had a couple channels just pecking and the exposed blank could feel them mouthing and I set the hook at the right time.

Now the medium heavies are nearly identical. Both built well ans it comes down ro which rod looks better to you. I think the Denali is a more handsome rod and I like the foregrip better. The mediums is where the Denali out shines the RL rod.

Thanks for the review Don. I was sure you have opinions on the two rods. I have not seen the Denali yet but hope to soon. I have all the rods I need but would like to take a look at this rod.

Now I just ordered a Rippin Lips MH rod for my son and to the house, the cost was $41 and change. What would the cost, including shipping be for the Denali be. An estimate will be fine if you are not sure.

I see you can get them from the Denali website for 50. Not sure what shipping would be. Catfishconnection has them for nearly 70 as what I gave for them. Rippinlips is still the best bet for a cheaper rod. I like the Denali rods better by a small margin and think they should compete more with Rippinlips by selling them for the same price.

Hey there, I would love some input from you regarding these rods. My main rig is 2oz lead with live bluegill, generally in the 3-5inch range and I'm usually catching fish in the 5-15lb range and I fish lakes and small rivers with very little current. Do you think the medium or medium heavy would be better suited?

Kevin, the Medium or Medium Heavy would work but if I were chasing, for no or low current, and fish ranging from 30 pounds and below, I would go with the Medium rod. For fish 30 pounds and above I would go with the Medium Heavy rod. We generally say a Medium Rippin Lips rod makes a great Channel Cat rod but that is because Channels usually are in the 30 pound and less range.

I can't speak about the Denali since I have not seen or used one.

The Rippin Lips can be bought from Amazon for a good price ( I think it is still around $39) with free shipping. Check and verify that is still the case if you go that way.
