Mustad Hook sizing

I have been wanting to try a light wire circle hook. I thought these were going to be what I was looking for. The moment I opened the package disappointment sat in. These 8/0 hooks appear to be the size of a typical 5/0 hook. I just wanted to warn others before they made the same mistake.

This is not the first time this has happened to one of our members. I do not know why but MUSTAD hooks are small compared to other manufacturers. There is no way that the company does not realize this. For that reason I will never buy a Mustard and recommend others do not buy them either.

I would recommend returning then for a refund if you can.

Josh, these are the ones I use. There are more than one version. Straight eye or angled eye. Straight shank or offset shank. Freshwater or saltwater.

I prefer the straight shank since I can offset if I want and I prefer the straight eye but the angled eye work well also.

They are a relatively fine wire hook. I do not like the heavy duty type.

Just a thought.

I started out using the straight eye but saw a good price once on the bent eye. After using it I couldn't tell any difference in my catch rate so now I usually just get which ever has the better price. To me it is just a preference thing.

Its not only Mustad

I just bought some of the 10/0 mustad hooks catfish dave uses. They are a little bigger than the 8/0 gamas i normaly use. They are very close to the same size as a team catfish 8/0. Which is bigger than a gama 8/0.

My partner bought some eagle claw 8/0. There pretty much the same as my gamakatsu's. Shaped a little different but gap size is there.

Hopefully someone see's this post before they make the same mistake. I had seen another post about the same problem and decided to go up a size before I bought some.
I ended up buying the 6/0 Mustad Demon hooks for channels.
Could easily go up another size or two because they run way smaller than other circle hooks.
I do like the fine wire and have not had one hook bend or break pulling the hook out with pliers.

Josh,
I dont think you can beat the gamakatsu value packs. Price versus quality wise. Weve caught fish up to 55 pounds on the 8/0s. Never had one fail.
