Hello I am new to this site and I am just glad to be here! I am wondering if anyone knows any good catfishing holes in the city? I do not own a boat and do mostly bank fishing. I would rather not go to a paylake to fish...any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

i feel you on the pay lake thing, all the fish that come out of there are usually beat up and ugly, and doesnt feel nearly as much as a acomplishment for getting a big fish, atleast to me anyway, try the bridge near 10th street on whiteriver, thats where i got most of my flatheads and channels

Hey do you have to fish off the bridge or can you go down some? Do you keep fish from whiteriver?

I fish Eagle Creek all the time. Here is a recent catch from out there.

It is a tough lake to bank fish. If you see a guy putting in a Princecraft 164 with racks on all sides down at the launch come say hi. If i have room, you are welcomed to join.

I think I found a good bank spot that very few are aware of. It is on the west side of the lake, north of the 56th St causeway. Park where the big bear statue is, and walk the trail that heads north. You will walk around the first bay, immediately after the bay there is a small opening on the bank. I have excellent luck catching nice channels in that stretch straight out from that spot.

One suggestion, learn how to throw a cast net. I typically only have luck out there using fresh, not frozen, shad.

Caught 8 nice channels out there last night, biggest was 8lbs.

Good luck!

Hmmm do you mean once you cross over the bridge heading to browsburg? Is the Bear statue on the left or right side? I drive that way all the time and I must miss it lol...I normally bank fish to the left of the boat ramp by the bait shop. I have only caught about 5 small channels this summer so far..its a lil frustrating but I am also sort of new to fishing, so I am sure I am doing certain things wrong!

Yes, the bear is on the west bank (B-Burg side) on the north (right) side of the street.

That area down by the boat launch is fished really hard, I would steer clear of that area.

Another good bank spot is accessible from within the park. If you enter through the 71st street gate, take the immediate right and head down toward to old gravel pit until you come to a dead end, park there. Follow the trail to the south (toward the 56th st bridge). There are two spots where the main channel of Eagle Creek gets pinched, those are both decent areas to fish. The first spot is a .2 mile walk and the second is a .45 mile walk. There is a sneaky, free, route that you can take to get to these spots as well. If you are on Raceway road, at the intersection of CR 800N, you will see an entrance to the Eagles Hideaway. If the gates are opened (don't get locked in!) you can drive back there, park, and walk through a trail that leads to the water.

Do you have Google Earth? If not, download it for free here Google Earth.

The coordinates for this area are 39 52'29.29"N 86 18'24.55"W, and south from there.

The spot listed in my previous post is 39 51'24.38"N 86 18'30.06"W.

I have my best luck fishing the bottom with a circle hook rigged Carolina style.

Hey thanks for the information...i tried that spot out on Sat morning but others were there before me so I hiked back up near the entrance and climbed down a lil and fished. Caught a couple small ones but surely more action on that side of lake than by boat ramp area. Still looking for the big one!!

I am looking for places to take my family catfishing. We don't have a boat and the shore has to work for all three of us. We are in the Greenwood area but are open to lake or river fishing. Not getting the whole pay-lake thing. One of the reasons fishing is sooo great is it is low cost once you get your gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
