I have not talked to the guy since I last saw him on the river. I just recognized him. He bass and crappie fishes also, if it is the same person. He's always been very open re: where and how he catches them. If we saw him out there, I'm sure he'd share info. I'm sure that spot you caught your two bigger ones has some more there. Unfortunately they have my name on them!
It's about time to hear from Ed. He said he would be going out later this week. I think the weather is supposed to be nasty on Fri and Sat. Hope he slammed em!

I think it's a great idea to get some interest in fishing locally. We've told some folks about the site when we see them fishing, but if they are computer literate I'm sure they don't remember details about how to join, where to look, etc. I'll bet not over 2-3 folks over and above the regulars have posted in the last few months. Then it's either someone that seems interested, but doesn't continue to post. I'll bet that a flyer couldn't hurt. In our case it's a rarity to find another boat out there, but with the ramp, you probably have a higher probability of getting success. Like you say, it would, in general, help eveybody catch more fish and probably make it more fun bragging about those they caught and those even bigger ones that got away! Let me know if you want me to take a first pass at a flyer. If it's ok you can print some and I'll do likewise. I'll send a note to Paul L. (the site owner) to see if he has any do's or don'ts relative to mentioning the site. I think you have a good idea.

Ed
Paul really delivered on a good flyer, huh. I'll print up some and if you do the same, we may get something going. Have you been back out on the river?

Have you been catching any fish up your way? What have you been using for bait? Seeing any skipjack or are they letting any water out of the structure. I've never fished up there so don't know how it is. By the way, thanks for posting.:smile2:

Yeah the flyer looks real good. Maybe it will bring some more folks in here. Denny what time do you want to leave sat morning. I would rather leave early to beat the heat but it the don't seem to bite until ten. Let me know what you want to do.

Let's try 8am. It's supposed to be a hot one. We have four part or full boxes of worms. I wouldn't get more than 1 more and only then if you feel lucky. The water level is down to the point we can probably get that anchor in the tree! Unless someone gets some rain, the water level is projected to go down dramatically in the next month. It is about 5 ft below last time already. Looks like Ed has been catching some which is a good sign. I can't find my floppy hat. Ed probably stole it for use up North (probably to impress the chicks) Anyway, take it easy.:big_smile_2:

I'm currently working offshore and haven't fished in a while. However, my dad went fishing just the other day. He's catching about like you fella's. Getting enough to cook up a meal by fishing around sandbars with worms. Nothing big though. They were letting water through the structure, but last time we tried it we didn't even catch one fish - and that was using worms and cut bait. Our best time is when the water gets real low late in the summer. Fish the holes then and hang on.

Ed, you need to sleep a little later. Before 5am posts should be outlawed. When they moved the site about a year ago I couldn't figure out how to put pic on site. I saw the word avatar on the sign up sheet and truly thought the site was beginning to be multi-language, maybe Spanish for fish or something. Then somebody told me it meant picture. I guess technology has passed me by!!:confused2: We're gonna give em a chance to bite in the morning. Will let you know how we do.

Hope that all you gentlemen do real good tomorrow. Things have been slow up here on the Red River. Several of us are getting ready to go fishing tonight to avoid the heat! Good luck to ya'll.

and what about...gofish...and WildWillie...haven't heard from you guys in a while. Been fishing?
I've been fishing a lake near Carthage, TX. Lake Murvaul is a water reservoir and is a really clean lake. Just trying to stock the freezer right now. I think we had 15 catfish yesterday with thirteen channel and two flatheads. Largest was 2 1/2 pounds. Oh, and we had 78 bream also. I filleted all the bream and just got though sampling them along with eggplant frenchfries. We had 11 channel and one flathead Thursday, along with a few bream. Not any of those huge fish in the lake like in those rivers over there. Sounds like from the posts I've read, you all need rain as bad as we do.

Unfortunately the temperature reached 96 degrees. It was a hot one out there with almost no breeze. We fished really hard though and at least brought a few home. We ended up bringing home 13 keepers that weighed a total of 42 lb. We had a couple of consecutively caught 6.5lb blues that could have passed as bookends, they were so close. We caught 2 flatties and one channel cat in the mix. We also each caught one tiny cat, I guess to test our prowess at fishing. We ended up with lots of empty hooks and no recognized bites so I guess our prowess was not too good. We caught everything on worms. Mike and Brad went along and we did have a fun time, but shade and liquids are essential. A few pics are attached.

Good hearing from you both. AR, let us know how you did evening fishing. I've never been on the Miss after dark. Where we go there's lot of big stuff that can get ya if they don't see you. Ed, do you ever go at night? The last few spots we have fished are within probably a quarter mile of the spot we put in, but it would be tough getting out after dark because of the all the crap you have do dodge going down the levee. I think we'd have to plan on an all nighter if we went. It'd probably be a little spooky for me. If they were biting though, I might be less spooked!! Water level of 4.5ft at BR is predicted by end of month. Ed, how low does your ramp go? We are SOL at about 6ft. Y all take care.:smile2:

To get in touch with Paul, I'd go to pg 42 of our postings where he sent the note. You can click on his name and select the option to send him a personal message (PM). If people ask about a person's name. I would guess if you gave them EdS, your site name, they would be able to refer to that. I don't know whether many folks know other people by other than their posing names. I'm sure he would answer the question, though. Glad you got some interest. I forgot to bring sheets and there were 3 other boats out there. Would have been a good opportunity to ask. I think we did better than most yesterday, but it sure would be good to get up to date reporting. All of the boats ended up fishing at one time or another in the same spots we frequent. I'm gonna be pretty disappointed when the water goes down too much more. One group we talked to said they tore em up all summer last year where we were. Their boat was a little smaller, but not much. They said it was tough to put it in water during the low water. I couldn't last year and it was a long way to the water yesterday. Hope the structure changed a little to allow us to put in longer, but, I guess, only if it is not quite so hot. Anyway, take it easy. By the way, that is a fine "Avatar" of you. I'd like to borrow that fiberglass fish and take one of me behind it too.!!

Ya'll did a lot better than we did up here. I didn't go on the Red with some of the others but they didn't get much. I went to a local lake and did fine, if you count the mud cats! I did get one fairly nice eating size channel of about 3-4 lbs and one ba$$ caught on a jug.

If we don't get some rain though, we're going to dry up and blow away. From what I hear, the river current is practically nil. Of course, without any water up here, that will only make it worse for ya'll too.

By the way, we're planning a gathering on the Red for Sep 30/Oct 1. I know that it's close to the National gathering and we don't want to take you away from that but wanted ya'll to know that you're welcome to come. The information will be on the gathering thread, R4 Fall. Come on up and fish the Red river with us
