Ande mono or ?

The only way braid works around rocks is if you use a sufficiently long section of heavy mono on top of the braided line. When you use braid in conjunction with a long heavy mono leader you get the benefits of both worlds while eliminating the weaknesses in a sense.

The braided line provides you the advantage of fishing heavy current with minimal line drag, high breaking strength to fight trophies, the ability to use compact reels and still maintain an excellent line capacity, and superb casting distance.

My standard flathead set-ups use a 20ft 80lb mono leader on top of a 50lb Sufix 832 mainline. I have had my 80lb mono cut on the rocks before while fighting some truly big hogs. I do not want people thinking 80lb mono is overkill. These flatheads are big and they are powerful, when they get themselves into the heavy current below a dam they take you where they want; straight into the rocks.

I’ve used Berkeley Trilene Big Game for 30 years. I’ve tried Ande and many others but always ended up back to Big Game. Ande premium mono would be my 2nd choice. I usually use 20lb and sometimes 30lb. IMHO Big Game’s abrasion resistance is tops and I cannot imagine a freshwater fish in North America that could break the 30lb.

I use Ande and Berkley big game. The big game has more stretch than Ande. That's not always a bad thing when using stiff rods. Another one I use is Cajun red line made by Zebco. It feels like Ande line but with slightly more stretch. It's good stuff, really abrasion resistant like Ande. I like to use the Ande 30 lb on my medium rods and Big game on my medium heavy rods.

We cut our teeth using Ande mono down at 15 (kerr) and at 14 ( muldrow-spiro) throwing our ABU big game 7000's and 7000-c3's loaded with 30lb pink and a 14ft fenwick tuna rod with a 5oz hitting 20-30ft past the last generators at Kerr.... Ande is tuff line works well in rocks .... we use braid now but were not in the rocks....

I just ordered some Ande.
Im not even sure how much I ordered because its called a
- 1/8 of the 16 lb tournament high vis yellow
- 1/2 of 20 lb monster high vis yellow

honestly I just wanted some 20 lb yellow but somewhere I read it broke at 30 plus lb so Im going to try out both
(I try not to get over 20 lb line because its impossible to break off)

ANDE PREMIUM MONSTER YELLOW 20lb 2400yd
$42.95
MONSTER YELLOW IS FOR TARGETING LARGE MEAN FISH. IT'S A HARD LINE WITH OUTSTANDING KNOT STRENGTH AND ABRASION RESISTANCE. IT'S A ONE PURPOSE LINE AND THAT IS TO LAND LARGE CATFISH.

I bought a one pound spool of And monster yellow in 20lb from catfish connection last summer. Deiter Melhorn does a great job reviewing it on his YouTube channel. Ande themselves say Monster is a 150% strength line, so 20lb is really 30lb, 30lb is 45, etc.

I tested it myself and it definitely breaks somewhere around 30lbs very consistently.

I also just installed a strip of blue LEDs in my boat and it glows like no other line in my possession. It's like a fiber optic shotgun sight going through the guides!

I finally spooled up some of the Monster 20. I was going to use the 16 lb for my lighter rigs.
I was surprised how thin the Monster 20 is but went ahead and filled about half the spool with some older 30 lb I had then tied a blood knot and got the yellow Ande on.

I tied a big nut on and made a few casts in the street and it casted extremely well. seems nice and limp too.
I like it

I went fishing and this Ande Monster seems to be a winner.
Its a little strange because it feels soft. Its also limp and opaque but it casts awesome I really like it.
