Zebco platinum 733

    Does anyone know anything about the Zebco Platinum 733 reel ,
    is it tough enough to handle good size cats and what length
    and weight rod would you recommend to use with this reel for

    I killed a couple of the regular 733's chucking fairly heavy weights and baits in the MO river, but I think they stand up to more reasonable use fairly well.

    Depends on what kind of water you're fishing, but I like a M/H rod with fairly limber tip so it's still fun to catch fish under 15# or so. Heavy current you may want a stiffer rod. Or if you're primarily targeting channels, then a Medium might be a better option.

    As to how big of a fish they'd handle, again, depends on where you're fishing and what you consider a big fish. I don't think they'd take too many big (30# plus) fish in heavy current, but I think they'd take anything up to 30's in a lake or small river setting.

    My dad catches a lot of good sized carp (5 -20#) on his 733's out of small rivers and creeks and they seem to hold up for him well. Good Luck!
