looks to me like they need to find a better way to attach or use different tags. looks painful.

and a fish with an infection like that may have bad things flowing in its blood. think i would have removed the tag and released.

cant see leaving it in pain.

I dunno if I would or not. If I understand right, MO is actually inserting the tags inside catfish that they are tracking. I'd probably turn it loose with the tracking device in place and chalk it up as one of those weird things you see on the river:wink:

I'd probably have turned it loose,But since it obviously wasn't,Yeah,I'd trim off the red areas an salvage what I could,no since wastin it,I'd say that was more of a bruise than infection,But I ain't sure.

I would not eat that fish. I understand the need for science and the importance of having viable samples, but that device seems quite large. How old of a device do you think that is. Thanks for sharing

I think that I would contact the fish and game to get documentation of the adverse side effects for that particular tagging method.

I would either toss him back in as is - to continue his work for research - or I would relieve the poor thing of his burden and give him a chance at an easier life.

i would take that horrid thing off its back and tie the device to a log so they can monitor that. then show em the pictures of what they did to that fish.
