I am from Southeast Okla and working at the Conoco Phillips Wood River Refinery. My wife and I will be in this area for the next year or so and we would like to learn a little about the Mississippi River. We are living in Bethalto at the Bethmore Mobile Home and RV park. I have my boat with me which is a 22 ft center Console Nautic Star with a 150 Yamaha. We have been to Shelbyville and Rend catching the Illinois crappie but we are about ready to get on those big ole Mississippi Cats.

Any help will be greatly appericated.

Welcome Scott. I'd just suggest you get a cast net for bait, some rodholders on the back of the boat and give it a shot. You'll find some big cats soon enough. Not sure if you've had your boat on the big rivers but just use common sense, be safe and always anchor from the bow of the boat, never the stern. I also suggest lifejackets, but I always suggest those.

Shad, MoonEye, Asian Carp or Skipjack. It will all work, try a bit of each if you can find it.

Just make sure you can tell them apart before posting anything on this site about bait. If you have any ?s about bait just ask SkipEye he is your guy!!! Oh Skippy don't forget the elusive Moonjack herring.

Skippy, has it only been 2 years ago? It seems just like yesterday!
Man how time fly's while your having fun at someone else's expense.:smile2:
But back to the important stuff, welcome to the site, always wear your life jacket, and be able to identify bait fish!!

Now boys it doesn't have to get complicated. If everybody would just "Pull his own weight" it will be fine.
