Here In Ohio, I consider the flathead season runs from appx april thru October....My best Months are usually May, sept, and Oct..But July has got to be the worst by far, due to the spawn..I cant remember the last time I caught a flathead in July...So whats the tougest month for you?

Fishing the Mississippi, Illinois, Spoon Rivers and Big & Little Cedar, Henderson & Hall creeks... the first week in July you can bet your bottom dollar the majority of flatheads are in the holes. I don't bother fishing for them until the last week of the month or the first week in August.

You said it Flathunter! I went out to the Big mo. river up by Blinco Ia yeasterday morning around 4AM. with some live bluegills that I had cought the nite before to give it a try. I had been up for a copple of hours reading some posts on the site couldent sleep. You think I could get a run heck no! fished till around 1PM. nothing. Its sorta strange because the bluegill were even tough to catch the nite before. I knew the flats were on the sponning but i though I mite catch one of the big females that had been chased off the nest and comeing back into the river from the little souix river or harrison Manona ditch. Oh what the heck I had fun any way and if Id cought one my head would of Swelled up even larger than it already is. L.O.L.The big catGod up stairs hasen't forgoten that about this time of year 45 years ago right now I blowed up poor Old Mrs. Cummings mail box with a Cherry Bomb thats got to be it right!July is TOUGH. Around here all the oldtimers seem to agree that July is the worst and April is the best month for flatheads.
