Me and my boyfriend fish in a catfishing tournament on Lake Hartwell on Saturday nights. Well last saturday we were fishing in about 6 feet of water and caught a 22lber and a 31lber in the first hour of the tournament. We later caught a few channels to bring our stringer up to 59lbs 15oz. We barely won though. There were so many nice flatheads caught that night. Big Fish was a really nice 47lber, but that was all he caught. Second place was 54lbs with about two 20+ pound flatheads and then some smaller ones. There were also 51lb, 49lb, and 45lb stringers of flatheads. I have never seen so many flatheads caught in one night. It was amazing!!

It had just rained for the first time in about 3 weeks and it continued to storm throughout the night. I guess the rain made the flatheads hungry.

Those are real nice fish to catch anytime let alone during a tournament.
How about giving us some details?

Equipment, rig and bait if you don't mind.

It implys that you fish this tournament every week, is that right?
    How big is this lake?

Sure sounds like a good one to be sure.

kccats... I looked up the info for you because i wasn't sure myself. Lake Hartwell is 56,000 acres and has 962 miles of shoreline. It is a big lake. We caught both of them on cut herring. We fish with blue gills too but haven't had much luck on them lately. Sometimes we throw out live herring too. But the 2 biggest catfish I've ever caught. That 22lber and a 23lber last summer have both been on cut herring. I caught the 22lber on a power plus.. we didn't have much confidence in this reel but we got him in the boat and that is all that matters  and i think my boyfriend caught the 31lber on a tide water. We mostly use abu garcias though... 6500s i think... We usually put out about 20 rods in the tournaments... we want to cover as much ground as possible... And if we are desperate we'll throw out a zebco with some chicken livers on it if we haven't caught our limit and think a little channel cat will help us out. hehe :smile2:
