From what i have read and know about shad that the ones that die during the winter are the easiest to get and if you just cut the guts out .The gut are like candy to the catfish.I know up north where most lakes freeze. that winter kill shad is pretty easy to come by o you get enough during the spring to last you all year and you can be up to your eyeballs in cat fish all year .

Frozen shad work pretty good but fresh cut shad work even better.

i've had the best luck with gizzard shad that have been frozen for a week or so and have yellow slime all over them .Yes i will agree that fresh shad work but i was just wanting guys to know that you can go out in the sprig and load up on dead shad .Use the guts and hold on cause there gonna tear up the bait.
