Carried a buddy crappie fishing on the Edisto Saturday and may have accidently stubbled onto something. While reeling in a pretty decent fish the reel suddenly started screaming and the line took off under the boat. Then it went slack and all that was left on the hook when i got it in was a pair of crappie lips. After a few minutes I got to thinking and looking closely at the fish finder and noticed what looked like some large arches sitting on the bottom mixed in with the structure I was fishing over. The biggest reel i had with me was a calcutta 50b ( bass combo) but I baited it up with a crappie head and dropped it off the back corner of the boat. Within two minutes it took off and wrapped me up. I repeated this process 4 times in the next 20 minutes before finally landing a 7 or 8 lb flattie, and then several more times thoughout the afternoon before landing a 4 pounder. We were fishing in a oxbow lake in 18 ft. of water over last years christmas trees. We plan to go out later this week to add some fresh trees to the pile and you can bet i will be loaded for bear.
