I was reading the poll on how heavy of braid you all use, and noticed that almost everyone uses a mono leader, I'm just curious as to why? To me that seems like it'd defeat the purpose of using 80#+ braid if you've got say 30# mono leader, can someone enlighten me? :) Also, I was curious as to how ya'll rig your weight, hook etc. I almost always have my weight at the end/bottom of my line with the hook tied about 12-18"s above the sinker with either a Palomar knot or a double surgeons loop depending on current situation, to help keep my bait/hook off the bottom. Thanks for all the info guys/gals.

Mono leader for abrasion resistance, I personally use 80# power pro with 110# hurricane single drop leader. depending on current 3 to 10oz bank sinker tied to the bottom of the leader with 8# mono so if i hang a fish the sinker could break off in a snag just leaving my Cat hooked with a 7alt Cirlcle C hook.....hope this helps. it has worked for me.

yep like said before the mono leader is for abrasion resistance against rocks so the expensive braid doesnt become frayed. Also its easier to just lose the cheaper $ mono on a break off than the braid. I use 2-10oz disc sinkers, carolina rigged with a bead and sinker slide with 8/0 gama octo circles, 8/0 TC Circles, 7/0 Daiichi circles or Owner SS 9/0 circles. here's a few pics

I agree mono leaders are more abraision resistant. On my big rods i use 50 or 60lb mono leaders. My rig starting at the hook is a 5/0 circle for cut baits and 7/0 king kahle for live bream, 16-18" leader, swivel, main line with a sinker slide, weight depending on current and bait. I like the sinker slides because you can easily change your weights and take them off when not in use, they don't tangle up with your other rods as much without the weights. I use the same rig when bottom fishing salt water, but 4/0 circles instead, where I change the weights more depending on current.

Thanks for the info guys! :) Just trying to learn as much as I can from more experienced folks. I like the idea of using a light 8 or 10# test leader for the weight, makes a lot of sense, I'd HATE to lose a monster flathead because I've got my weight tied on with 80# Powerpro, haha. Good fishing to ya'll!
