I like to fish for types of fish. The biggest reason I like to catfish is the **fellowship** I have with friends as we sit and wait for a "BIGGIN" to come along. (Do go by myself at times). **The sitting around and takling about fishing and life issues is relaxing** Got into bass fishing 35 years ago and found out that many of those guys who get extremly serious about it don't seem to have as much fun. Still bass fish. bluegill, crappie, and buglemouth bass fish. Not trying to put one type of fishing above another by this post.

**Guess that's why it's called "Brotherhood of Catfishermen"

All fishing is good, however; Catfishing, it just don't get better than that... imo.

Well for one thing, I like the giant fish that are capable of being caught. Second, I like the idea that I dont have to exhaust myself casting a lure 1200 times in a day to catch 4 fish  Although bass fishing is fun too, but its nice being able to have a soda to drink while you fish, and not as a way to calm down after fishing.

2 main reasons. First, in northern IL, there aren't enough bass to bother with -- the only large fish in Northern IL is Catfish in the Rock River. Second, is I want to relax. I don't like standing and casting 100% of the time. I am happy with 2 or 3 fish an hour so I can read a book, and listen to the Cubs game on headphones. One in a while I even like to listen to the Cubs win a game too (catching a nice fish and a Cubs win--what more could you ask for).

I grew up creek fishing and catching cats and hearing my papaw and uncle talking about catching huge cats on trots and in traps. They sustanince fished mostly but loved what they were doing. Its a family tradition with me I guess, besides who wants to work all day to catch a 2 pound bass when you can lay on the river and catch 50 pound(or bigger) cats:cool2:

I like it cause its a great way to relax. When I trout fish Im aggressive. I work a hole for 5 min if I dont get atleast a follow Im off to the next spot. catfishing I can shoot the shit with whom ever Im with or just have some quite time by myself and self reflect. and too boot... the eating is great and I get a bigger bend in my rod then when i catch trout or crappies.

I bass fished for years and fly fished for trout for years. And, truly loved both. But, especially fly fishing. And, I was hard core for both. However, IMO, catfishing is just a more laid back, comfortable form of fishing (if you allow it to be so). And, you stand the chance of catching something, umpteen times as big as a bass or trout. And, with a whole lot less expense. But, then again, you can still spend bunches on any kind of gear. Just depends on how "hard core" you are into it.

I ba$$ fished for years, and im ashamed to admit it but i used to look down upon people who fished for anything else. After a run in with a large yellow cat i realized that the guys and gals who fish for catfish where looking down on me because i was fishing for"bait". I dont want to fish for "bait"anymore,i want to fish for the top predator in the water. Fishing for cats is alot more relaxing, even though i take all fishing serious, because im not casting 2000 times,im not changing lures all the time,im not worrying about water clarity vs. lure color. After making the switch from ba$$ to catfish i actually feel more like a fisherman instead of a "casting specialist".

My number one reason is they are big, aggressive, and king of our river out here.

I just like taking a break from the work week and getting out by the water. It's good to talk about other stuff besides work for a few hours. I also like filling my freezer with meat.

Simple question, complicated answer. Why do I cat fish?

    1. The isolation I get when on the river. Almost never see another baot.
    2. The action. Most trips are successful and even if the ole skunk gets you you normall at least get hit a few times.
    3. The possibility of catching a real big bruser. There isn't another fish in my neck of the wood that you can fish for and know a 100# plus monster is our there and catchable.
    4. Good eating. Yes I do keep and eat catfish. My family really loves the taste.
    5. It's an exciting sport. Clickers screaming is a rush!!!
    6. The people who fish for cats. Best folks I've ever been around are catfishermen.
    7. A sport the whole family can do together and everyone have fun.

They taste good, and they are fun to catch. Pulling a catfish in is a great thrill everytime. The only time I don't like it is when a perch or a gar is on the other end of my line.

For me personally i find catfishing relaxing, it gives me time when they are not biting to talk and have fun with my son, and to just relax from the normal grind.

I love catfishing because channel cats are just beautiful to me how their color blends together. I also love the fight of catfish.

Let's see...Tastes great so the money you put in doesn't go to waste. My wife doesn't bitch cause she loves to eat them. The costs are cheap if you need them to be. You can fish for them from almost any bank on almost every body of water. The chance of catching a monster with every cast. The biggest reason is that I enjoy the types of down-to-earth people that catfishing attracks. My wife can bait her own hooks with liver or cut bait and not once put her nose in the air.
