Well one thing is clear from this thread:If you are wondering what would be a good state to live in or retire to GO KENTUCKY.Having lived in the state for many years I can attest to its fishability although I would choose TENN for all those smallmouths.!!!!!!!!I cant list my PBs because you cheated.!!!!! :sad2:NC has a no more than one nightcrawler rule for Flatheads so we cant compete fairly. No telling how big it would be if we could use 8 Nightcrawlers.:smile2::big_smile:

Blue 54lbs cut sunfish Kansas River 2006
Blue 50lbs cut carp Kansas River 2007
Flathead 49lbs cut shad Kansas River 2006

These are my 5 biggest catfish, although I did catch a 60+ spoonbill that tangled up in my line one night when I was catfishing. All 5 were caught fishing from the bank. From this list it looks like I only use cut bait, but I've caught several blues in the 40's on live bait.

    Personal bests would be

    Flathead 52.5 pounds
    Blue 45.5 pounds
    Channel 15 pounds
    Spoonbill 83 pounds
White Crappie 3 pounds 13 ounces
    Hybrid/Wiper 14 pounds

My best flathead and blues were both in 2001. Since that time I've caught lots of both in the 20 to high 30 pound range but haven't broken 40 since 01.:sad2:

And to think that I fished the Tailrace about a half dozen times last year and never even caught a single catfish. :embarassed:

The only big fish that I have caught are spoonbill. My biggest is 74 lbs. My girlfriend caught a 45 lbs blue cat in 2006 so she is beating my best channel cat by 35 lbs right now. I really need to redeem myself on that ordeal LOL.
