I think most fishermen stretch the truth a little bit. Some stretch it beyond recognition.

I can't believe that fellow fisherman would lie to each other.

But last night I caught a new state record, did not have my camera, so I just released it.

Well I bet my state record was bigger than your state record and check this out. I broke it on my first cast and broke it again later the same day. bigest blues you ever saw. I was on a roll so that night I went out for a record flathead. I did not break it two times but did catch a record flathead. I used a 7 pound bluegill for bait.

I don't understand why some guys don't tell the truth about their fishing

I'm a greenhorn when it comes to fishing.
In fact I just started this year (after finding this website.)

Here lately I've been telling people:
"I'm not very good at fishing or lieing.... but I'm getting better at both!"

    LOL!!

OK ok so sometimes I add a couple of pounds or inches to the stories but that what makes them entertaining.

    My favorites:

"It lost weight on the stringer."
"It was too a catfish...I felt it roll"
"I gave it to a poor man on the bank...you should have seen the size of it"
After your line breaks..."Man I've caught 50 pounders and that one had them all beaten."

Being labeled a lair, theif , or cheat is something everyone should avoid, or expect to have few friends. (unless they fall into the same category) Honesty is always the best policy, regardless. Just ask anyone who tried to cheat at a big tournament, and got caught. I wouldn't want the public humiliation, and ridicule. The truth is easy to remember, and repeat, and a lie can be confused, and woven into a tangled web of deceit. Just be truthful, and folks will think highly of you, and trust you. JMHO. Jack.

 I believe the standard response that i HEAR a lot when pre-fishing tournaments is....Man does this lake have fish in it? I couldn't even catch shad let alone a catfish:eek:oooh: I caught a couple that went 2lbs and you? I didn't even get a bite:crazy: Then the next day we all have nice stringers:lol:
