Which will cast farther the abu 6500 or the 7000? I know the 7000 has higher line capacity but does that mean it will cast farther too? Also, there are so many sub varieties of abu 6500's and 7000's. Which would be best to get?

So, would you say their casting distances are probably close enough not to make much difference? If so, which would be the better reel? 6500? or 7000?

If your after distance the 7000 will win hands down with everything being equal on the set up between a 6500 and a 7000.

If you're going for distance, then with line, weight, rod length being equal, then I'd take the 7000. I've got both and throw them both about the same distance but have more line left on the spool with the 7000 than with the 6500. If I get ahold of a "bigun" way out there, then I've got more line to play the drag with on the 7000. The 7000 also has bigger drags and lower gear ratio.

This would be a great test. I have the abu 7000c3. This reel casts a country mile when set correctly. If I was a betting man, I would go with the 7000. For the fact, the 7000 has a wider spool. Putting in consideration, both reels have the same line diameter and the same rig "Weight", and of course the same rod.

The 7000 C3 has two settings for casting and when you have them set right it will outcast a regular 6500 C3. Thats using the same rod, line, and weight. I will say I have the old 7000 C3. The 7000 is bigger with a higher line capacity.

The 7000 just holds more line. The 6500c3 will definitely go farther if using the same line. You just don't know if its going to be enough...

I have both the 6500 and 7000 reels and been using them for years...I can cast the 6500 much farther than I can the 7000.

I should do a poll. It seems to be about 50/50. Or, maybe 60/40 in favor of the 6500:)

I agree with the 6500 guys. My 6500c3 casts a lot farther than my 7000c3. Tournament casters use the 6500 for a reason.

They use the 6500 yes, but they're the double knob rocket models without the line guide or brakes in it.

xringer they love the c3, ct, blue yonder, and i think mag elite but they'll take a stock one any day because they can swap the bearings, add rare earth magnets and a coulpe of other things. thats why i competed with a spinning reel less work and not as sensensitive to weather changes.

There are a lot of variables and each reel will cast equally well. Generally the dual end cap Abus are better performers.

Sounds like we need a casting contest, I say the 7000 C3 will outcast a standard 6500 C3. No upgrades with either reel just stock. I know there are 6500 that will outcast a 7000, some being the rockets, cl, and some big game reels, or upgrades to name a few. There are guys who have picked up my 7000 and they were surprised how well they cast. Its just a matter of getting the settings right, and using the right set of weights for the break. Mine came with two different sets of weights.

What are the "dual end cap" abus? My abu is a 6000.

The 7000ic3 is hands down the best Abu out there the 7000 serious was designed to hold heavier test line to handle big fish. So if your going after big catfish(35lbs and larger) you cant beat the 7000ic3.
