I am getting a rod for flatheads and blues. I will be using braid and an abu 7000i. I do not know what to get i will be fishing the lower james for blues the upper james for flatheads and a small canal witch a can cast across with '6"6 i would like a '7 foot for the upper and canal and '10 for the open james i will be fishing from shore at places like pony pasture, duch gap, city point, ect.

    Welcome to the BOC..

For rod length; 7'6" - 8' is a great all around rod Length for most guys fishing from shore or boat.

Now as for the type of rod and action,, your choice.....1-2pc

    line.... .lure..... ....action.... .....power......

    25/50lb - 1-5oz - Mod/Fast / Fast - Md/Hvy / X/Hvy

My choice for fishing Flatheads and Blues in the river would be,

    7'6" 25/50lb,-1-5oz,-Fast,-X/Hvy:wink:
