From my experience, the river cat gets the nod, fins down. Maybe it's because they live in more current; I don't know, but even considering the current, I think they fight harder on average than do lake fish.

River cats, easily. I think it is because they have to constantly swim in the current, building more muscle mass. Plus if they run with current that is extra momemtum against you.

    Hi Guys,

I think that all fish from streams or rivers fight harder that the same species caught in a lake or pond. I would think that they are stronger fish because the grow up living in the current their entire life, but also, when you are fighting a fish in the current they will try to use the current for their advantage, so your fighting a stronger fish plus the additional current that is not present in a lake environment.

    Take Care

in my opinion the river cats fight harder than the lake cats. They build muscle constantly and they know how to use the current to fight against you.

I agree. It would appear to be logical that river fish would give more of a fight but that leads to another question. Are catfish logical?

I would have to say, River cats for sure!!! Blues and Channels will use the current to help them and flatheads love to drag you into snags, LOL!!! There are not many lakes out there with the snags that a river can provide.

Same as all others above. Fish fight harder in current. I don't know for sure if they actually fight harder, or if it's just the extra drag from the current. I do know that a 2# smallmouth fights like a 5# largemouth. Catfish seem to be fresh for a fight out of a river or stream.
