As we have experienced much rain recently, I've been heading to Nimrod and fishing below the dam. I had the day off today, great weather, and the itch to go cat'n. As I navigated the heavy fog in the dim morning light I could catch glimpses of flooded fields and woods. I worried that the engineers had the dam wide open. I got to the boat lauch only to find that it is not even in the water. Because the Arkansas River is so high the Fourche is backed up and they have cut water releases. So I parked and found a nice place to bank fish. I managed a few nice cats before ending my day early. A side note: because they are holding water in the lake, the camp site I have reserved for Memorial Day weeked is now flooded . I don't figure the Corps will be able to move enough water to bring the lake down low enough to open the flooded sites.
