I am taking my family to the Lake of the Ozarks for a family vacation in July. We have never been there before. While I would like to hire a guide service there, I just can not afford it. I am looking to go catfishing there. I do not need trophy kitties, just some nice fryers for dinner. We will be pulling a pop up camper down, so what I am looking for is advice from someone that has been there before. I am looking for a nice camp site, close to the lake. Where would I go? I am intrested in bank fishing for cats. Thanks for the advice. I greatly appreciate it.

Well cory it all depends on what part of the lake you are going to. The upper part below truman dam has a lot of bank fishing opputunities . THAT IS WHERE I WOULD RECOMMEND FO R CAMPING AND BANK FISHING . IT IS LOCATED IN WARSAW MO. YOU COULD ALSO GO TO THE LOWER END OF THE LAKE AND BANK FISH BAGNELL DAM.

Lake Ozark is a big place. I guess there are campsites all around it but I am familiar with the Lake Ozark State Park.
Good camping and it has a boat ramp. The only problem will be the boat traffic. Night fishing from the bank should be no problem as most of them leave the water before dark.
Get a map and it should show plenty of places. If you are going to be at the same camp for a whild, I would suggest you chum you a spot. It will produce the whole time you are there

I would also recommend fishing below Truman Dam, at least in that general area. Don't think they allow camping below the dam anywhere so I would just camp at Sterret Creek, Long Shoal, or Truman State Park, you can bank fish up on the lake also but a short drive will get you below the dam for fishing there too. Truman is full of eating size channels and blues that can be caught from the bank. Something to consider also is renting a fishing boat from one of the marina's if you can afford it. Here's a few links that might help out:
