Fresh cut gizzard shad is always an excellent bait to use on Wateree. I would fish the rims and edges of deep holes and the river channel ledges at this time of year. Drifting is always a decent way to do some scouting and Wateree has numerous deep flats which are often interrupted by points of land jutting out into the lake as well as offshore humps which serve as magnets for bait and fish. Drifting seems to produce smaller fish in my opinion but can help you gain some confidence on a new lake. Hope this helps.

We fished lake wateree last year for the first time catfishing and had most of our luck in the upper part of the lake where its narrows up we caught fish, several fish between 20 and 35 pounds which were fun but we want to hook up with larger fish! how about the other end of the lake where the deep water is near the dam anyone had luck there !
