My first large flathead was 44lb.It's the one I'm most proud of.It was Dec,3rd four years ago at 9 A.M..I was fishing from my boat at the jucntion of a creek ditch and the main river channel. The water temp was in the low,low 50's and the depth was 33' dropping off into the main channel of 47'.I was using cut herring. The water was nice and calm with no boat traffic.I had caught 2 or 3 nice fish earlier and then I moved to the spot I caught this fish, baited 6 rigs and sit down and looked at the rods in the rear of the boat and one was going down.Landed the fish, pulled in the other rigs, lifted the anchors and went to the store above the house to get someone to photo me with the fish.As soon as I got the photos I went to another landing and released the fish.My largest fish is a 47.8 flathead I caught in the canal at Santee Cooper. It was great ,but nothing as exciting as the first. The photo's are in my gallery listed as 44lber and 47.8 lber

Minnesota River. Just caught and released a 40 inch 27lb flathead. We were in a boat anchored 3 ft from shore. check out my recent post "BIG MN BITE" for pictures. Also have pulled 36 inch 22lb Flattie and a 10lb channel out of the same spot.

I only recently started fishing for catfish. The largest to date was caught last Saturday Sep 10. I caught a 20 pound Blue and was using hot dogs for bait. I would never of tried hot dogs if it was not for the BOC and many that suggested. I cut several hotdogs into bait size pieces and added powered garlic. Several days later I took the *bait* out of the refrigerator and went fishing. The hotdogs out preformed the cured livers and the large blue took the bait :)

I had something on that I fought for about 5 minutes before he straightened the snap on the steel leader. I would have liked to get a look at the fish even if I could not boat the fish.

I forgot the camera so no record of the Blue (I CPR'ed - Well that is not correct, It was CR caught and released), but there is always next time. :D

My biggest so far is a 12lb. blue caught in a tail race behind a dam. I walked, fell, swam, to an "island" in the middle of the race about 50yds. from the dam. Not much chance of rising water without heavy rains so I felt fearly safe. I threw out a 6in. shad freshly caught in a cast net. I think he hit it on the way down as I had just wedged the rod between a couple rocks and there he was.

I've only been catfishing for a couple months now. I started when I got tired of not catching much during the heat of the day and decided to try going out at night for cats instead. I don't have a boat yet, so I only fish from the bank. I've caught a LOT of 6-8 inch babies on liver, but I've pulled out a handfull of 1-3 pounders on liver and cut bait, a 5 pounder off liver, and the other night I pulled a 7 pounder out of Black Butte Lake using a 6 inch baitfish whole on a long shank hook. That was sweet, but I can't wait to catch something in the double digits!! My buddies and I tried the Sacramento River last week, off the bank where the water curls back and runs the wrong way into a spot with a fallen tree in it, but we didn't get a single bite all night. I was sure there'd be some action there, but nothing. There was a pair of socks and a nice rod and reel laying on the bank that no one ever came back for, and we were there from before dusk until well after dawn, so maybe the "big'un" WAS in there somplace after all and he'd already eaten.....?

On that note, a friend from work told me about a buddy of his who scuba dives... The guy went diving below the damn at Shasta Lake and saw a catfish big enough to eat HIM!! Scared him so bad he got out of the water fast as he could and refuses to dive there anymore. I'd sure like to get a boat and drop a line in THAT hole!! :)
