First off, Murray is a hard place to find shad consistently. There have been days we trailered the boat and went home because we couldn't find any...that's what got me started freezing skipjacks. From the bank, the best place to go is the "cut" they dug out with a barge backhoe on the peninsula between the dam and hydro. The water flows back and forth in between the hydro discharge and the spillway and you can usually catch enough there to go fishing. If that fails, walk over to the spillway side, down where the sand and shallow rocks are...it will only be knee deep for a ways out there. Walk slow and watch the water close...you can see schools of them swim by and catch them that way. The water will be real shallow and you'll have to get your feet wet to get your net back.
