I dont know about Murray, but we always catch shad throwing the net just below the dam, at the end of the steps that lead to the water on the generator side.
If in a boat, look for the birds they know where they are.

Not completely sure about the ARK, but our shad don't start running good until September..
Unless you target them in lakes and is permitted by law....In our rivers it is not worth the effort until SEPT because you will throw 300 cast before nailing a good one....

TIP: if they run late in the river, vaccum seal them for the next year+.. started doing this last year and makes a world of difference on freshness and hook ability...

Will you be in a boat or fishing for them from the bank?
I am fishing from bank. Last year I was able to net them right at the bottom of the stairs on the hydro side. Haven't seen anyone catching them with net at M&D this year. What month do they normally show up?

thanks

First off, Murray is a hard place to find shad consistently. There have been days we trailered the boat and went home because we couldn't find any...that's what got me started freezing skipjacks. From the bank, the best place to go is the "cut" they dug out with a barge backhoe on the peninsula between the dam and hydro. The water flows back and forth in between the hydro discharge and the spillway and you can usually catch enough there to go fishing. If that fails, walk over to the spillway side, down where the sand and shallow rocks are...it will only be knee deep for a ways out there. Walk slow and watch the water close...you can see schools of them swim by and catch them that way. The water will be real shallow and you'll have to get your feet wet to get your net back.
