when bank fishing try what i call a break way weight it easy to make and it will save you a lot of hook and some weights
To make cut you line and take a three way swivel and take you main line and tie you line to the swivel then take a 10 -15 pound line and tie it to the center part of the swivel put you weight to the center line tie it off so the line is about 12 inch's to three feet the last line you use is the hook line about three feet or your chose on the from 20 to 50 pound tie your hook to it and start to fish it will save you a lot of hooks and a lot of line to when you get cot up in a snag hold the line and the pole out straight with the water and pull back if that will not work walk back with the same way this will break the lighter line and free you to reel in you line and you might have to lost one line and not the hole set up this will same you time fishing and you will lose a lot less and spend more time fishing with you lines in the water and not fixing them all the time

"astrochelman"....Adrian, Welcome to the BOC all the way from California...

I use a break-away at times.... but do it with a "sliding sinker" rig which is my main rig....I just extend the sinker down when I need the bait off the bottom.

Have a great new year.....From the Beach at Los Angles.

Welcome Adrian. Yep, you're describing what is technically known as the "3 way surf rig." I use a 30 lb main line on my reel, a 25 lb test leader where I tie my hook, and about 17 lb. test for the sinker line. On a lighter rod I use 20 lb. test main line, 17 lb. test leader where I tie my hook, and 12 lb. test for the sinker line. And as Gilmafan says, it also works well with a sliding sinker. Good thread!

With the leader line just a tad lighter, at least if I lose a hook, I get my swivel and sinker back. :cool2:

I use a three way swivel rig, and I use a lighter mono line for my sinker leader.
