When do the shad run in the Cape Fear?

    I live in Wilmington and put in at the Castle Hayne public dock underneath the hwy 40 bridge. When do the shad normally run in the spring? Does it have more to do with the temparture or just spawing time?

    Thanks for the info. I have always heard that the lock and dams are good spots to be when the shad are running, I was just wondering when they normally run up the river.

    here is a trick that a lot of old timers have taught me. that when the dog wood trees blossum that they will be here. so any where from mid march to early april. and yes the locks are the best place to catch them.
