Back when I used such stuff regularly, I used BJs blood and cheese baits.
In the ninetys, I used Magic Bait with lukewarm results. Now if pressed
for a prepared bait preference it would be Gulp! doughballs in blood. I must
continue to report that its effectiveness is spotty at best. Have yet to
try Secret 7, Hog Wild, or Sonny's. Little Stinker's system is interesting,
but I have had only occasional success with it. Perhaps I just fish these
baits whenever the fish seem to have lockjaw? Persistance is not one of
my usual traits on bait selection. Also, these baits cost money!!

Brian Welcome to the BOC, from So. Illinois. I would suggest you carry several different dip baits with you on each trip. There are several good brands out there. The dip bait with the highest reviews is Secret 7. I have found that fish will prefer different baits on different lake at different times.

he had 7 fish over 6 lbs that day, until i figured out what he was using,

If I had to guess.....Cat Tracker is making it:wink:

I would like to see the difference in ingredients from Wicked Sticky.

Good bait though..... but Premo has been spanking it for the last couple months.

I've noticed that myself, Troy. In the early spring, cats, even flatheads
tend to wake up slowly and eat the carcasses of fish that didn't make it
through the winter. For one thing, they aren't hitting on all cylinders quite
yet and dead stuff doesn't run much. Freezer burnt shad put away from
the fall seems like just the ticket while the critters are waiting on things
to warm up to a smooth idle in the metabolic engine. Right now, mostly
channels tending toward but not limited to eater size will still go for the
stink. Flatheads want it live, generally speaking. But they are creatures
of opportunity and will snack on cutbait from time to time. Blues love
clams and crawdads, so I'm told. I'm amazed the prepared baits haven't
cranked out a freshwater clam dip or dough. Maybe that's next.

Danny King's is the only stinky bait I will use, orginal prefered, or Garlic if orginal is sold out. It's been hard to find the farther away you get from Oklahoma, but it's being sold in more and more places. It stays on the hook better than anything I've ever used, and the channels and blues love it at certain times of the year. Still, I'll usually take along one or two other baits just in case they're not feeling the DK that time around.

For a punchbait I like SureShot.

Dipbaiats I use the most are Wicked Sticky, Premo Blood and Secret7. If ya told me I had to fish with just 1 it would be Wicked Sticky. Like to fish these on 1/2 a looper with a Gama Wide Gap Finesse 4/0(not as big a hook as it sounds).

Loading any of the above dipbaits above with a bunch of cattail fuzz will make servicable punchbait..........if that's your thing:wink:
