I have "several" Berkely rods that perform well with the 5000 series and also several "Ugly Stiks" with a few other types thrown in, they all have thier purpose. Generally the Ugly Stik is my weapon of choice mounted with 6500 or 7000s. Grandma uses a 5000c w/12lb test Stren on a Berkely M/H 6.5 rod and out fishes me consistantly. So it isn't so much what equipment you use, it's how you use it.

In my opinon people way under estimate the power of an ABu 5000. I think they are really good for Channels on Circle Hooks. The downfall of them vs a 6000 for instance is 1.) No Clicker, which I dont use anyways, 2.) Spool Size, but if your using line for Channels, you shouldnt have a problem w/ a 5000. I've had a couple Tournament Grade TGC5000C reels & they felt much nice than my 6000's.
