If you had to make ONE choice?

What would your choice be for one weapon for home defense?

Lot of expertise out there, what do you prefer?

Hand me the shotgun. For multiple reasons. Some of you may not agree and some you you will but here are a few reasons I like it.
    1. Effective
    2. You should be able to hit your target even coming to from a dead sleep
2-15 range general direction should be "close enough"
    3. Good deturant "jacking" a round is usually enough to do the job, but if
that doesn't work the sight of it should be.
Those are my top 3 reasons why I chose a shotgun. I/we have pistols and revolvers, rifles and so on but that is what I chose.

A shotgun I think is the best prob. a short barrel pump jacking a shell in the chamber Will make someone stop and think about what could happen but never point a weapon at anyone if you aren`t ready to use it

My choice would be the semi-auto.
A shotgun would be to clumsy in a tight space, and to easily knocked away, also i would prefer wounding some one rather than cutting them in half.

    A revolver is to slow.

Pepper spray--tazer may not be effective

I am a excellent shot with a pistol, and could place my shot.

I picked a semi auto. I have 2 extra clips and I'm confident on my shot placement. I like my gloc 9mm but after voting I came to a dumbfounding question. Why is it everytime I think I hear something outside or in the back yard I grab my shotgun first? LOL

I prefer the handgun. over the shotgun. its easier to come around a corner without telegraphing your move and they cant grab the barrel to keep it out of harms way like you could with a shotgun (sawed off not considered). Otherwise, I'd have said 12 gauge with buck shot.

I'll take my K-9 Gator  & back him up with a short barreled 12ga. pump shotgun with low recoil 00 buckshot.

The flashlight mounted on the shotgun barrel alone will blind you

A shotgun, for all of the reasons already stated.

And this: a pistol bullet can/will go through walls and remain lethal. Same goes for buckshot. #6 shot will get the job done in close quarters, and stay in the room.

I could kill an intruder, and never lose a night's sleep; if, God forbid, I hurt or killed an innocent, I'd never sleep again.

Thank you for reminding me of something that I failed to clarify. What I meant by low recoil ammo, was only part of the description. There is ammo both for pistols, shotguns & rifles, called "TAP". It is designed of course to be of low recoil, low muzzle flash & reduced penetration EXACTLY for the reason in which you just stated.

Many law enforcement agencies are using this ammo for their "Entry Teams" because of calls in apartment complexes & multi dwelling units.

Once again, thanks for allowing me to elaborate on this, Have a great day, Elliot

    Thank you.

I've always wondered what that stuff was.

Some people argue that a weapon-mounted light gives the other guy something to aim at. I'm no expert, but it makes sense.
