what size test line do you use?
i use 20lb test when i am pole fishin
Bigal, I use 30lb line in just about every situation, but lately I have been wondering if I shouldn't go to a bigger line. I've had a couple fish break me off or run out enough drag to get into a snag. I've been trying to break the 50lb mark and have caught a 32lb flathead and a 43lb blue since the middle of summer, but the 50lb mark seems to always elude me. Vern
20 lbs. Big Game is a good one to use. We use 2oz. sinkers with two hooks per line. I have found that 17 lbs. test is not a good one to use with this set-up.
I use 40 pound test here on the James River. We have some pretty nice blue cats. Biggest so far was 54 pounds caught last April.
I'm a 20lb big game line man myself
I use 50 or 65 spiderwire on all my rods this is this first season i have used it and love it.
i use ten pound stren for my fishing.
I use 20 lb test Stren Catfish line on most of my Catfishing Rods :006: .
I use Berkley big game 30-40 pound test mostly. I also use Sufix titanium plus 30 pound test.
30 lb braided on the spinning reels, 40 lb on the baitcasters,
Berkley Big Game 25# test for my gear I use up here in the river. And 40# test of the same for my bigger road trip gear. Use 50# test leader material for snellin my hooks.
thanks for all your replys i was just making sure i wasnt using to small of line
I use 25# and 30# Berkley big game with a 18" leader of 80# gorilla braid. Last night I caught a 52# blue on 25# big game and a 35# flathead on the 30 and it never seemed like it was going to break.
I use 20 lb big game line or sometimes I use 20 lb stren.
30# mostly but I have braided of a few rods butt as it gets old I'll go back with mono.
Jay, yup, it don't take 50 pound line to catch a 50 pound fish.
Alot of folks forget that reels have a drag and it's purpose.
If I'm in a boat I feel more comfortable with lighter lines because I know I can get to a snag if a fish hangs me.
You'll find me using 20-25 pound monos with a 18"-3' 50 pound mono leader for brute fishing in the rivers.
Meat fishing for 5-15 pound channels in a lake, a bass reel spooled with 12-14 pound is enough and a whole lot more fun.
i use 20-30# stren on my abu's most of the time. some 24# spiderwire on my 33's.
I also use 24# Spider-wire. That stuff is amazing.
17-20 pound stren with 30 pound leaders
