Do you like Kahle hooks with live bait? Do you fish mostly rivers or lakes? Thanks for your time. Phil...

Hooks depends on size of bait and fish species. Khale are my favorites due to the design which gives you maximun hook sets with less pressure since the point goes in a straight line with the line. As in a J hook, the point is off line at an angle with the line, hence less hook-setting strength.

I use 3 to 6/0 Kahles, partly depending on the size bait I'm using. My circles these days run 7/0 and are under a float with a pretty good size bluegill on the hook if I can get them.

I use to love kahle hooks. I used #2 kahle hooks for threaded knight crawlers and 5/0 for cut bait. However, I've now switched to 5/0 octopus hooks for cut bait. I use magic thread to secure the bait to the hook shank and up the line so that the hook point and most of the hook bend is exposed. I've noticed a slight increase in hook sets.

6/0 works best for me, I have tried other sizes but went back to 6/0. I fish the mississippi river.

I Usually Use A 2/0 To 4/0 When Fishing For Channels, Depending On The Size Of The Bait & Size Of Fish I'm Targeting.

Other than selecting the hook for the size of the bait, it doesn't seem to matter much. I catch 5 lb cats on 2/0 kahles and 10 ounce ones on 6/0. So, I now use mostly 5/0, some 6/0, its largely whichever the store has in stock, sometimes they don't have the larger ones.

I ues a 5/0 and that works for all bait I have used since I started using a kahle hook 3 years ago. I have caught some pretty small ones on the 5/0 trust me. Seem to work good for medium sized perch ( as bait) up to 5" as well.
