just make sure that theres still enough room for a good hookset. i use 5/0 or better for most of my fishing.

    8/0? Goodness...

Would a 13-inch channel be able to take something like that though?

i use an 8/0 circle hook ,with my cut bait being about 2 inches wide and 4to 5 inches long and catch alot of eater size fish in the 1 to 2 pound range.

I use a size 5 for everything, cut bait, chicken liver, worms. I believe it is an overall good size for cats big and small.

i dont use circle hooks but if they can get the bait in their mouth then it stands to reason they can get the hook in there aswell , the key is to leave as much of the hook exposed as you can

I use a 3-6o circle hook with 1x3 bluegill chunk for eater size channels. smaller chunks on the 3's and bigger chunks on the 6's.

Yes they will. But ya are gonna take an eye out. Hook size depends on bait size. The most important thing is hook point exposure. Its a must! Its a big part of what starts the process of gettin em to the boat. LOL!
