What knot should I use going from braid directly to mono for a leader? Or should I use a swivel between the two?

i recomend using the barrel swivel instead of using a connecting not for the simple reason of line twist i my self use spyro swivels saltwater grade they spin better than the cheap ones from walmart
and when i make my leaders i use the palomar knot to connect leader to swivel and main line and snell my hook
    just my .02 :cool2:

I use the swivel also, but was just telling him what knot I would use on those occasions that would require braid to mono knots.

That is the knot mostly recomended to tie mono to braid. When I put mono backing on the reel then attach the braid to the mono, I usually just tie a sqare knot to hold the 2 lines together, tie a dropper loop with 8 to 10 twists, wet it then draw it tight, then trim off the sqare knot and excess line. Holds real well and is easier to tie than the surgeons knot for me.

Try tying the dropper loop, it's easier to tie and you end up with the same type knot.
