what kinda catfish is this

    Hi im fairly new to the forum
    this is my first post
    we got a 3 acre pond in north texas and about three years ago we bought 5 catfish from a vietman store and put them in the tank
    they were three pounds
    last year my dad caught one of them and i think there channel but they have grown alot and are huge if they are but
    just want to know what kind this is
    and also we forgot to weight him you got a idea of about how much he would weigh
    thanks alot
    my dads 5'7 if that helps on the length of the fish

    Cant tell if thats a flathead or not., the 2nd pic kinda looks like one. Always take a pic from the side if ya can , the tail end tells a lot ; )

    Sorry I cant say for sure.

    I'm gonna make a useless guess and say 8 to 10 lbs but there really is no way to guess better without a length.

    Definately a channel cat ,nice one too! Sometimes when those channels get big they kind of look like flatheads, biggest give away is that the flatheads have their eyes more on top of their heads unlike the channels. Chris

    looks like a channel ta me, if it has a v at the tail its a channel

    Most of my 10# are between 24-26 inches long if that helps. A 20# is in the 36" range. Maybe that will help give you a better guess.

    Oh, blues and channels both have forked tails ; )
