ive caught two of these turtles before... one at seneca lake and one at salt fork lake......... one buddy said it was called a leatherback but they are in the ocean... it looks exactly like a soft shell turtle but i thought they had spots on their shells and not so much a "camo" pattern like this one....

btw...each time i caught one they were snagged in the leg... also the turtle smelled HORRIBLE.. worse than any snapping turtle ive ever caught....

Soft shell aka "Leatherback". We get them all the time in the GMR. They're nasty, suprised he didn't chase you around! Their camouflage is amazing. We let one go at the bank and he never moved, no one had noticed it. I went to clean my hands off and suddenly the "rock" under me had moved. Almost lost a damn finger! :tounge_out:

There are a lot of those in the lakes I fish here in AZ too.. Anytime you are using cut bait in the summer, you have a good chance at hooking into one of those.. They get big and are as mean as sin..

When you are half awake in the middle of the night, they are a big disappointment when you think you have hooked a pig catfish..

    * I agree, they smell like Sh-t. I just cut the line when I see it.
