If fishing from the bank I use a 7ft ultra lite spinning rod and a medium lite spinning reel to make long cast and the same for the boat.
I use a fly rod also and small jigs color is decided by the fish.

I just use a light-medium action rod with a spinning reel. 10 pound test. I use a carolina rig with about a 2 foot leader with a jig on the end and one in the middle. I just chunk it out there as far as I can and jig it back in. When they are thick you can catch two at a time. I catch a lot of skips at the Cumberland City steamplant. I just cast into the boils. When they are there you can catch em on every cast.
