big monster flatheads, other fish in the water you say? Sure is, I call them bait! one of those guys that don't mind sitting on the water soaking huge baits for night after night hoping for the big one, might only get one or two hits in 100's of hours of fishing.

I usually set a small trot line to scout a place. Then when I find a concentration of fish, I rod and reel fish there exclusively and won't touch it with set lines again. Of course now, releasing all fish over 20 pounds.

Trophy fisherman. I target the largest fish in the body of water I'm fishing. I would rather sit all weekend waiting for one huge fish than catch my limit of eaters. I exclusively target flatheads, and every flathead I catch whether it be on a setline or rod & reel is released.

R & R 100 percent of the time. Grew up on trot lines and limb lines, but in my books R & R is the only way to go.
I fish daily from about an hour before sundown to around 10:30pm. If for some reason that I cant get out then (as in now) then I will be on the water around 3am till ?? Sleet, rain or shine. The only weather that keeps me off the water is a thunder storm, and it had better be close.
Once the water temp. gets up so's the flat heads or moving I fish only for them. CPR all the way. Do I catch as many fish as the trot/limb/jugg liners. No way. But each and every fish I catch is tons more fun and satisfying regardless of its size.
Hope I die on the water w/pole in hand. Fishing is my medication for what ailes the body and soul.

My Introduction To Mr. Olive Colored Mudfish Came Over 20 Years Ago. I Was Striper Fishing With Live Bait And I Hooked Something Nice. The Time Was Around Midnight, It Was Hot, Humid, And There Was A Full Moon. After A 15 Min. Battle, I Finally Saw My Fish. It Was One Of Those Jaw Dropping Moments. The Guy I Was Fishing With Actually Backed Away From The Water And Said, I'm Not Touching That Thing. I Landed My First Flathead By Hand, And He Weighed 35lbs. I've Been Hooked Ever Since. From Mar-Oct Flatheads Are All I Fish For. I Try To Be On The Water At Least Once A Week. I Release Everything I Catch. A Couple Of Nights Ago I Was Fishing With My Son And He Caught A New PB Flathead. It's Pretty Cool That He Enjoys It As Much As I Do.

I catfish for the fun and R&R. As for Mr. Big, I figure my day will come when I least expect it to. I tend to night fish more than anything as it is cooler and I get to hear the night critters.

Depends on our mood and whether we're wanting fillets or not. Sometimes setlines and sometimes rod and reel. We release most of the bigger females now days and we always watch for the females right before the spawn as it seems like they really start hitting. Rarely do we get time now days to hunt big flats all night or for several days straight but when we were younger and had less commitments we did. Use to love to set trotlines, jugs etc for eaters and rod and reel for monsters.

I put forth a toatal 25% of my fishen time to flats now. I used to be nuts about em but blues and stripers got my attention to. I still fish for em but relax now and not as driven. I RR and set line for em. Biggest problem is dealing with the MO river and its moods fishen.

I look at flathead fishing like bowhunting whitetails or predator calling. You don't talk and make a lot of noise when you are hunting (well, with any level of success) do you? I release every flathead I catch, and i have no problem sitting for hours on end without a bite. I would say that from April to mid September I am completely consumed by flatheads.

Week nights, I fish from around 7 to 10, and weekends I pull the all nighter. Wish I had gotten into it when I was a teenager, would have kept me out of a lot of trouble.

If I catch a flat its by accident.LOL I mainly target blues and channels.
My wife loves to fish but she does not have the patience for flatheads.
She wants action. She is not good at the waiting game for flats.
I always try to take her with me because she loves fishing so well.
I can't complain she never says a word during hunting season when
I'm in the woods more than I am home. I'm one of those selfish SOBs
that saves most of his vaction for hunting season.LOL
