Hi all -- Hoping someone can help us identify these catfish. A family we know just got a new place in California with an awesome stocked pond. Can anyone tell what kind of catfish these are?

At first I thought bullhead, but the tail in the second pic has me thinking really dark channel. Other more experienced please chime in.

I'm thinking funny color phased channels.

Something about the head shape and whiskers has me leaning toward some kind of bullhead, but not really a clear enough view. Should be fun on light tackle either way.

I’d say a really dark channel. I caught channels that were so dark they looked black. I was fishing into a damn on the Upper Potomac River. I wasn’t really sure what I was looking at either. Now sometimes in the wild hybridization does occur. So that’s always a possibility too.

I would say channels. I have caught a lot of bullheads and that one would be an awful big bullhead! I could be wrong but I don't believe bullheads get that big usually. Maybe state or world records.

channel cats for sure, bullheads tails look almost square like a flatheads. They would also be state records if they were bullheads, lol.
