I can't be certain but it looks like a mississippi white cat. They are probably called different things depending on where your at.

Looks like a caught cat to me. I never was any good at countin the rays. That is the determinin factor for tellin the difference when it comes to blues and channels.

Lance, here is what little I know about doing an ID on a catfish.

White Catfish: slighty forked tail, 22 anal fin rays. Color is not white in this local.

Channel Catfish: 24 to 29 anal fin rays. Young ones have spots on the rear section.

Blue Catfish: 30 to 35 anal fin rays.

Flathead Catfish: mean, ugly and a great fighter. The have a big mouth, are brown, yellow or a mix. You will know one when he bites your bait.

I also lean toward the channel because of the coloration. I ? the tail though. Could be a hybred....

I would say it's a blue.. I think blues dorsal spine stands higher then channel cats......thats usually the first thing i notice other than the color

Looks like a female channel who has been on a nest by looks of fin irritation. Female channels keep there spots and have a petite head and light coloring. Male channel cat turn dark and get a big bumpy head. Thats my guess without counting rays.

Head looks like a blue, but no matter how I count those anal rays the most I can come up with is 28.

    CHANNEL CAT
