I am getting back into catfishing after about a 10 year absences. I have not fished much in that time. And i am wondering what every one likes to use. I will be taking my 9 year old son with me as often as he wants to go. Thanks Rick

I like any fresh cut bait or live bait. My favorite's are Shad, and White Perch.:) Personally I would stay away from chicken livers as much as possible if you're after the big cats.:)

All depends on where/how/time/location of the fishing man.... depending on the size u want and if its a river i would use live bait...pond lake, live maybe worms...i just love my live baits!!!!

Where are you fishing, river or a lake or a pond. What kind of catfish are you after and what kind of catfish are in your area. Once we get these questions answered we can direct you to what bait to use. I presonally use cut eel, shad, and bowfin for blues and channels, and I use live eels and bluegill for flatheads.

About a 6" bluegill does the trick for me.

hey fellow claytonian...I reside in Clayton as well....

I love FRESH cut bleeding oily fish (shad) or eels as long as it gives off a good scent trail cats will eat it...

(we caught a couple last week 18lbs and 12lbs on FRESH carp)

I am about to start experimenting with the strike king catfish products and will post results.

I have found the big ones do usally prefer a FRESH cut bait thats found in the body of water your fishing...

    flatheads like big LIVE baits!!!!

    hope this helps...good luck!

for the most part, flats like live bait. but.....it's not cast in stone. this time of year your chances are good at catching a good fish on large cut bait. mack(kittyhunter) caught a 35lb flat last year in april on a big bream head.

i have been tearing them up lately with shad. but in the summer its bream(live and cut).

I tell you what I am gonna try this next week or so, You know how Magic Bait and all them make "nuggets" or "balls" well I am gonna have a treble hook(a big one) and put 3 or 4 "balls" together on it. I hope this will bring in the bigger channels and maybe a blue. I would be happy with some 5 or 6 lb Channels.
