caught this cat at waverly lake last night.
Looks to me like genetics.
It's pretty nice sized and it's still eating so I would think there is nothing wrong with it besides haveing a varible in it's pigment.
his skin felt rubbery were it was black.
Got any cats in the neighborhood? Cut off a hunk of the black stuff and feed it to one of them. If it starts keeling over, feed the rest of them. oooh: I wouldn't eat it though either way. If it's not some sort of disease, it looks like it got into something that it shouldn't have, like oil or something.
All of those fish kind of look deformed any chemical plants or anything like that around the water?
YEAH MARK, I WAS THINKING THE SAMETHING! THOSE FISH LOOK SICKLY TO ME.GOOD QUESTION,CHEMICALS OR SOMETHING BAD IS BEING PUT IN THAT LAKE! I MEAN ONE FISH WITH A PIGMENT PROBLEM YEAH,BUT THAT ONE ON THE RIGHT LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THOSE WRINKLEY DOGS FROM CHINA,AND THE REST JUST DONT LOOK TO HEALTHY TO ME.:sad2:
Looks like definatly there is a problem. Chemicals probably to blame. But, could just be a disease or genetics. Who knows.
I Would Call You Dnr Officer And Let Them Check It Out So If There Is Something In The Water They Will Have A Heads Up On It.
How long hd they been out of water when the pic was taken? The black one looks like he has develop a fungal infection from having his slime wiped off. The others just look like they've been in the air a while or had expired by the time you took the pictures. All looked as if they hed been feeding well.
Seen somethng similar on a cat from the Illinois...
On a serious note, I wouldn't eat and I would get in touch with the DNR about it. With all these invasive species comin' about, hard tellin what germs/virus'/bacteria they brought with em.
the other 3 looked good to me. the pic is after a 3 hours in a fish basket and a 30 min ride in the truck.
i wouldn,t eat any fish out of this water, without first checking your local fish consumption advisory list. this definitely looks like chemical damage, and if so, than the other three aren't safe to eat either. the truck ride wouldn't cause the wrinkled head on the one either. you should show this to your local D.N.R. and see what they say.
Umm, your boat isnt called the Exxon Valdez is it???
I never seen anything like that so I would suggest contacting District 4 Biologist in Athens about it.
Looks like a good night otherwise! Way to go!
New from Rhino brand truck bed liner products:
THE RHINO LINER KITTY!
THATS RIGHT FOLKS, NEVER LET ANOTHER TOOL BOX FALL OF THE BACK OF YOUR CATFISH!
ACT NOW. OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY!!!!
I don't think I would eat any of those cats. Tehy just don't look quite right.
I dont think i need to really say this but, I wouldnt eat that.
looks almost like latex paijn or it could be roofing tar some one left a old tar bucket full of bait out and it fell in you should get it checked
I have to agree, those cats just don't look right, DNR needs to be informed. :sad2:
"When in doubt,throw it out"
I'll try to post a pic of an odd one I caught last year
Not only would I not eat them, I would'nt be getting in that water either!
