Results seem to be way below par this year. It is not just me, and I am not seeing anyone catch much. Normally, the bait shop in Iola has several big ones in the minnow tanks but not this year. I am not even hearing anyone talk about anyone catching much. I have fished from Neosho Falls darn near all the way to Humbolt and only caught a very few small flatheads and one fat channel that went about 25. The flatheads have all been below 5#. The river is bank full and running like crazy now. Maybe it will clean itself out.

Welcome to the BOC Rick I fish mainly at Humboldt and have the same experience.I like to blame it on the corps of engineers. They have kept the river so high for the last few years its tough to fish.I've only been fishing with live bait for flatheads maybe I'll switch to catching some eater channels.

Possibly years and years of setlines/trotlines catching up and now showing signs of decimating a river. The stretch of the Marais Des Cynges between Ottawa and Melvern hasnt put forth any big flatheads for me or anyone else that I know for a few years now. I hate to speculate negatively, but with 100's of good ole boys trotlining these small rivers from April to Sept , year after year, you'd have to think that might have a massive negative effect on a small river. Just my two cents.

Dont know Keith something has changed drastically here. There used to be lots of limb lines and trot lines but rod and reel fishing was great with lots of big fish.I dont think my section of the river is being lined at all anymore.Theres almost zero access to the river except at the dams and no place to launch any kind of boat.

There have always been limblines and trotlines. Pretty hard to set a trotline this year with the water up so high and running so hard. I suppose you could go up the creeks and some of the slough inlets to set one.

Someone suggested that he knew at least 20 people in the area who have and use telephone magnetos or similar devices. I think that is what has happened to fishing on the Neosho, but that is only a theory.
