anyone recognize this junk? Nightprowler and i went fishing for channels today and while trying to get a hook un-snagged he dragged in an ancient sunken log with something really weird growing on it! it kinda resembled a sea creature or something and had the texture of hard jelly. not sure if it was a lifeform or not but it was some nasty lookin stuff. whatever it was we quickly returned it to the depths from where it came!

BTW, it came from 17ft of water and had mud on the log below the mystery jelly. looks like log was standing on its end in the mud.

Don't know what it is either.

wish I had a sample I could probably incubate them and see. I breed tropicals and "cold water" species are'nt that much different. Might be a form of algae too with air bladders from photosynthesis but then again 17 ft. there might not be too much sunlight, if any. Well I'm stumped. Where are all the scientists on here? I'd be curious as to what it is too! Who knows, maybe an unknown species or something! LOL!
