What is this fish?

    It looked like a skip jack or shad. It was about 16" long and had a yellow eye. It also had sharp teeth in the middle of its mouth on the lower jaw and its lip area had tiny sharp teeth. What is it?

    .....could it have been a sauger....did you catch it below a dam? if so then that's prolly what it is .....them things flock to dams around here

    i bet it was a mooneye or they have a bunch of names but google it and find a pic.

    sounds like a walleye or sauger.

    It is some kind of shad. It had some sharp teeth though, I found out the hard way.

    you probably caught a goldeye. ive caught them this year for the first time, and i hear they make a real good cut bait.
    did you catch it off a worm?

    Thats it! and yes she did catch it with a worm. I thought it was some kind of shad but I didn't know they had teeth like that.

    Well I was curious to see if there was a state record for the goldeye. There is....its 1.88lbs. Her fish broke 6lb test after pulling it from the water. I'm pretty sure it weighed more than that to bad I turned it into catfish bait.:too_sad:

    It could have been a gold eye....they have teeth and look like that.

    It was a goldeye. I took a picture of it when she caught it and it looks exactly like the picture beaneye provided.
