Is this really the world record for flatheads?

    World Record - Flathead Catfish
    (All Tackle)
    Weight: 123 lbs. - 9 oz.
    Length:
    Girth:
    Angler:
    Ken Paulin
    Caught at: Elk City Reservoir
    Bait/Lure:
    Method:
Zebco 33 with 12 lb. test
    Record Date: May 14, 1998

I have been looking all over, but it was hit or miss then I found that listing. Can someone please tell me...

Yes it is and some fisherman had to get that in on a zepco 33.

Ah... Well I will stick with the Rod & Reel record, seeing as how that snagging and "bank to bank line" catching isnt sporting in my book. To each their own!

Methods aside, it does give a better idea of how big they can get.

Here is an original article from 1998 talking about Paulie's (not Paulin) record:
    http://www.cjonline.com/stories/051798/spo_ramberg.shtml

"The wind was blowing hard toward me," Paulie related. "But I think that helped me bring it in."

    Hmmm.

As a local to the area from which Mr. Paulie's "record" flathead came from...I for one...along with many of my like minded fishing buddy Kansas redneck cronies in this area....wish, hope, and pray every year that flathead record would be broken...no matter where it comes from.

Hopefully from a fellow BOC member tho. (Go Team!)

This horse has been beat to death in the past, so I'm going to refrain from rehashing the specifics.

    Bottom line...

It's the record. It stands. Until someone knocks it down.

    Hopefully soon.

    They're out there buddy!!

Just a matter of a dash of skill...a ton of perseverance...and an infinite amount of luck.

Same as the bluecat record...the flathead record will fall as well. (And it won't be the last time)

Seems to me that hooking a healthy 100 lb plus flathead...and then actually landing it is a whole other animal.

    I wouldn't know...but I could just imagine!

I have had a hard enough time with 40 - 50 lb flats, and 70...80...90..or an occasional 100 lb spoonbill!

    Couldn't imagine a 140 lb flattie!!
