I thought this might be interesting, please reply with

1. depth
2. size of fish
3. time of year
4. time of day
5. river/stream/lake

I caught a 50 pounder in 18" of water on 5-24 at 11pm on a large lively bluegill fishing a shallow river. The bait was on the shallow side of a ledge that dropped into 6ft of water.

2ft, mid to high 30's fish (it bottomed out my 32lb scales), cut bluegill, mid-September, large tidal river.
caught around 6:60 or 7pm.

Most of my flatheads over 20lbs have come from deep water (deep being relative). Most have come deeper than 10 or 12ft.

We've caught flats up to 50 pounds finning in a foot of water in the Neuse river at night.
It's just like top water bass fishing. When they take the bait, the water just explodes.

I learned a long time ago lake fishing and setting trot lines that I was fishing too deep at night.
Folks standing on the bank like to cast as far as they can.
95% of my trotline fish on a trotline that ran from bank to 20 feet deep.came from the first 3 or 4 hooks from the bank.
I sank my trotlines to the bottom.

Fishing from a boat in a lake I quickly learned to throw my baits up onto flats in water 3' or less.
