I reckon it depends on a lot of factors, but I heard Fin-nor is the best. I don't have any experience with it. I tried some old Penns, I was getting ok, but had to use a lot of weight. I have a couple Avet reels, they are good, but still take practice. Everyone got a favorite, there are pros and cons, for all, depending on use, rod, weight, etc.

Id say a big spinning reel if its on a long rod. As far as brands goes, to each his own.

A Abu Garica 6500C3 does a good job.

I use to cast a Newell which was very nice. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend. I hear Avets are nice, but I guess a mid range priced reel would be the Abu Blue Yonder for pure distance. The Abu Pro Rockets are good distance casters if you need a level wind. You can always send a reel to a shop to get it juiced for distance. I would recommend going to a surf fishing site and check out the distance casting forums. You will find a plenty of info. Good luck.

Not sure but I believe that a spinning rod/reel will give you a good reach.:cool2:

Chrome Rocket 6500CT-Chrome Rocket with this upgrade is a distance caster for sure.

    • Abec 7 Ceramic Bearing Upgrade

    • Carbontex Drag Washer Set
    • Stainless Steel Drag Washer Plates

But with this upgrade done on a RCN60 HC with a levelwind. I would have to say it would be hard to beat.

    • 2 Stainless Stell ball bearings on levelwind
    • 1 Stainless Steel ball bearing driven cog wheel
    • 2 Abec 5 Shielded Hybrid Ceramic Bearings
    • Carbontex Drag Washer Set
    • Stainless Steel Drag Washer Plates
    • Titanium Coated Levelwind Guide

I kind of agree with Preston,
Most "and I said most" reels do a fairly good job of casting but I think it has more to do with how well you throw one, and how you have the reel set up, find a good quality reel and practice,,,the best reel around if loosend up all the way wont cast worth a fip if you bird nest it everytime,:eek:oooh:, "Not that you do"
