Im curious what kind of hooks you guys have caught your biggest catfish on. If you remember, list your type of hook, size of hook and size of fish. I always wonder if my 6/0 Gamagatsu Octopuss hooks are big enough to haul in a 70 lb blue or shovel. List what kind of bait you caught it on as well.

I think mine was a 8/0 Octopus hook, but it popped out as soon as we got the fish on the bank. Was a 43lb Blue cat, was using a big fillet of Carp for bait.

43 lb. blue on a small shad head using a nickle plated 7/0 kahle. Also caught a 68 lb. spoon bill on a nickle plated 7/0 kahle I accidentally snagged it in the tip of the snout fishing with corks next to the generators and you talking about a load in the swift current after that hook stood up to that kind of pressure it made a believer out of me.

Looks like I might be able to move to a smaller hook:

10# blue on a 7/0 Eagle Claw khale.

Like Mark I also use mainly the 6/0 gama octopus but for big hooks I use the 10/0 gama Big River Hook. It is a great hook for live bait.

It does sound like you may need to upsize a little bit. I dont fish with anything LESS than an 8/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook for anything over 20 pounds.

As for my biggest fish, it was a 17 pound flathead, although I cant recall exactly what I caught him off of. MY largest channel cat though was 12 pounds, and I caught him off of a 6/0 Gamakatsu Black Nickel Octopus hook on 20 pound test P-Line CXX Xtra Strong (Fluorescent Green) on a Mudville Catmaster M/H rod and a Tidewater T20L reel. I hope this helps

Got my biggest one a 34#er with a 7/0 Kahle. That is all I fish with and now starting to use the 10/0 Kahles. Not a better hook made in my opinion.
