I just set up a new rod for MonsterCat. Its a 10' Med/Hev Spinning rod with a Abu Garcia Cardinal 106 with 60# Stren Super Braid. Will this work as a Flatty Rod????? Any further ideas???..........Jeff

Sounds like a great set up to me. I typically don't use a rod that long. It is too big for boat fishing. Let me know how it works out.

Sounds like a good setup, a bit long for me but it should get the job done.

Hope you have a baitrunner on it, that would help, but yeah, fine for flats

    I prefer baitcasters.

I think the shorter rod would give you more leverage and pull on the fish, but the length gets you the better casting distance... I like 8 to 10 foot rods from the bank as well...

sounds like a nice rig. i like a longer rod. most of mine are 10 to 15 ft. there are pros and cons to both. i like the long rods for casting distance and where i fish there are a lot of sunken logs. when you reel in you have to get your rod tip high and keep your fish/rig off bottom to keep from getting hung up. but everyone has their preference.

hey the only way to tell is to use it! it sounds like a great set up for bank fishing. i prefer a 7' rod but if there was a set rod for fishing cats, we'd all have the same thing and there would be no diversity, and that's part of what makes catfishing so awesome!
